(EICR REPORTS)

We can carry out periodic electrical inspections on your property or premises
to help identify any of the following:

• Reveal if any of your electrical circuits or equipment are overloaded
• Find any potential electric shock risks and fire hazards
• Identify any defective electrical work
• Highlight any lack of earthing or bonding
• The adequacy of earthing and bonding
• The suitability of the switchgear and control gear
• The serviceability of switches, sockets and lighting fittings
• The type of wiring system and its condition
• Sockets that may be used to supply portable electrical equipment for use outdoors, making sure they are protected by a suitable residual current device (RCD)
• The presence of adequate identification charts & notices
• The extent of any wear and tear, damage or other deterioration
• Any changes in the use of the premises that have led to, or may lead to, unsafe conditions
• Incoming supply & switch gear

If anything dangerous or potentially dangerous is found, the overall condition
of the electrical installation will be declared to be 'unsatisfactory', meaning that remedial action is required without delay to remove the risks to those in the premises.

PAT TESTING

We can carry out Portable Appliance Testing
on all of your electrical appliances. PAT Testing will help you adhere to the following statutory requirements:

• The Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1974
• The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
• The Provision and use of Work
  Equipment 1992
• The Management of Health and Safety
  at Work Regulations 1999

And may help with the following also:

• May prevent possible invalidated insurance policies if damage or injury
  can be attributed to faulty portable appliances

THERMAL IMAGING INSPECTIONS

We use the latest Thermal Imaging techniques to identify latent and potential problems and areas with regards to:

• Heat loss
• Detect damp spots
• Burst Pipes
• Many other problems can be potentially identified

Faulty and aging wiring along with abused or poor previous DIY and overloaded installations is one of the major causes of electrical fires in the home. You can avoid these by having regular checks carried out on the condition of your cables, switches, sockets and other accessories associated with fixed installed wiring. There are clear signs that can help you tell the age of electrical installations in your home. Below are some examples of this but there are many more.

• Cables coated in black rubber (phased out in the 1960s)
• Cables coated in lead or fabric (before the 1960s)
• A fuse box with a wooden back, cast iron switches, or a haphazard mixture of fuse boxes & wiring (before the 1960s)
• Older round pin sockets and round light switches, braided flex hanging from ceiling roses, brown and black switches and sockets mounted in skirting boards (before the 1960s); and
• Wall-mounted light switches in bathrooms (before the 1960s)
• Insulated or plastic looking fuse boxes, Consumer Boards which are in most houses these days are going to be recommended to be replaced with non combustible material / construction  type

In recent months the London Fire Brigade have reported an increase in domestic fires involving consumer units. This was not due to defective products but as a result of arcing on cables where tightening of terminals has not been sufficient, resulting in overheating of the terminals which eventually ignited the plastic enclosures.

Consequentially, Amendment 3 to BS7671:2008 introduces a new regulation relating to the enhancement of Fire Safety,
as follows:

Regulation 421.1.201 – Protection against thermal effects – Consumer Units

• Within domestic (household) premises, consumer units and similar switchgear assemblies shall comply with BS EN 61439 3 and shall:
• Have their enclosure manufactured from a non-combustible material, or
• Be enclosed in a cabinet or enclosure constructed of non-combustible material and complying with Regulation 132.12
• Amendment 3 was published on 5th January 2015 and will apply to all Electrical installations designed after 1st July 2015; however Regulation 421.1.201 will not be mandatory until 1st January 2016
